Namibia has recorded annual fruit inflation of 14.4% in September 2026, making it the food category with the highest price increase, even as overall food inflation slowed compared with the same period last year.

According to the Namibia Statistics Agency’s (NSA) September 2026 Consumer Price Index (CPI), annual inflation for food and non-alcoholic beverages declined to 4.0% from 4.9% recorded in September 2025.

Within the food basket, vegetables, including potatoes and other tubers, recorded annual inflation of 8.5%, followed by milk, cheese and eggs at 7.0%. Fruit inflation was considerably higher than the rates recorded for these other food categories.

Meanwhile, coffee, tea and cocoa recorded inflation of 3.5%, while fish and oils and fats each recorded 3.2%. Bread and cereals increased by 3.0%, while sugar, jam, honey, syrups, chocolate and confectionery recorded inflation of 1.3%.

Mineral waters, soft drinks and juices recorded the lowest annual inflation rate among the listed food categories, at 0.7%, according to the NSA.

On a monthly basis, food and non-alcoholic beverage inflation stood at 0.1% in September 2026, unchanged from August. This shows that monthly price growth across the overall category remained low, despite the higher annual rate recorded for fruit.

The NSA’s figures also show that food and non-alcoholic beverages account for 16.5% of Namibia’s consumer price basket. Within the basket, bread and cereals carry a weight of 4.8%, followed by meat at 3.5%.
