MSMEs Secure N$246.4 Million In Government Contracts
Micro, small and medium enterprises accounted for 53% of reported government procurement awards in the first quarter of the 2026/27 financial year, securing contracts valued at N$246.4 million.
Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) accounted for 53% of reported government procurement awards in the first quarter of the 2026/27 financial year, Minister of Finance Ericah Shafudah reported.
Presenting the national budget review in the National Assembly on Thursday, Shafudah said the businesses had secured contracts valued at N$246.4 million during the quarter, as government introduced measures to strengthen preferential procurement.
She reported that government had issued a directive to clarify the application of the Code of Good Practice on Preference, which forms part of its efforts to strengthen the implementation of preferential procurement.
“These measures are already yielding positive results,” Shafudah said in the review, referring to the directive and related measures.
The review also outlined other regulatory changes in public procurement, including Public Procurement Regulations that increase procurement thresholds and introduce a special category for high-spending public entities.
Shafudah listed the Framework Agreement and Pooled Procurement Regulations among the key financial regulations that had been gazetted.
The procurement figures were reported as part of the government’s account of progress in public financial management and governance during the first quarter of the 2026/27 financial year.
