Bank Windhoek Commits N$147 Million To Sustainable Projects
Bank Windhoek has channelled N$147 million into sustainable finance through 97 loans in the 2026 financial year, as it works towards a N$300 million target.
Bank Windhoek has provided N$147 million in sustainable financing through 97 loans in the 2026 financial year, with the bank targeting N$300 million as it expands support for projects with environmental and social benefits.
The bank disclosed the figures in a statement issued on Monday, highlighting progress made through its Sustainability Loan, which supports qualifying clients investing in sustainability-focused initiatives within defined thresholds, particularly smaller-scale projects.
Bank Windhoek Chief Treasure, Ian Erlank said sustainable finance should address both environmental and social needs while contributing to economic development.
“Sustainable finance is two-dimensional, and it must therefore include both environmental and socially related projects,” Erlank said.
The 97 loans had an average value of approximately N$1.5 million, reflecting the bank’s focus on smaller-scale initiatives that meet its sustainability financing criteria.
Erlank said the loans reflected efforts to support economic objectives while generating environmental and social benefits.
“We are proud of this progress and remain firmly focused on reaching our N$300 million target,” he said.
According to the bank, work during the past financial year focused on addressing gaps that had hindered the identification and development of projects eligible for sustainable financing.
The bank plans to increase awareness of its financing options during the new financial year and accelerate progress towards its N$300 million target.
Bank Windhoek said the financing approach was intended to contribute to Namibia’s transition towards a more resilient and inclusive economy by incorporating environmental and social considerations into lending decisions.
Erlank said the bank would continue exploring ways to improve its sustainable finance offerings and strengthen its role in financing sustainability-linked projects.
